Wiley divorces Grime

2007
Wiley’s quitting, no joke. RWD-Mag broke the news yesterday. Here’s a short excerpt from the Wiley-interview :
”....I stayed in grime to see if there’s a future, but I can’t see one. Well, I can see one, but not with me. Someone else has to light the torch. What grime music does is make you break your neck. You work in grime and all you do is grime, grime, grime. You won’t even see your mum and dad. It’s a lot. So I retire. Today. 22nd of January I retire…..
Shame, because many people – including myself – loved the stuff Wiley put out in the last couple of months. But on the other hand it’s probably the only sensible move for him to make.
Anyway, even after two no-shows in Berlin: Wiley, there’s always a stage for you here on your farewell-tour. Give us a bell.

GRIME - allet Banane??

2007
i just stumbled across a post by ad biz of the sick girls which reads something like this:
”......what’s with grime? why did i not get any new records lately? why are there no regular grime parties anymore in berlin…... is this just my own lack of interest because i’m wound up in a new love for rave classics and guitar mash ups? or does this reflect the 2006 state grime was/is in?.......”
well, i hate guitar mashups, and rave classics are not really my thing either, but i must admit ad’s got a point. since grimetime went into hibernation last june our sick sisters have been the only people in berlin carrying the torch of grime. to my knowledge no other dj or crew stepped up & started playing grime or promoting parties. at the same time dubstep has seen many parties and growing crowds – with the vibes ranging from good to narcoleptic.

anyway, give us some feedback what you think about the state of grime-affairs in town. and while you contemplate this shit, here’s something for your eyeballs – promise it’s not grime ;)

MC PETTY and BURAKA SOM SISTEMA, straight out of Lisbon/Portugal, doing their very own version of angolan KUDURO music

and a pretty mad video of MAPAPUTSI, apparently a star in south african KWAITO

p.s. africa, please come & save grime!
